Where does our food come from—and why is farming important in Washington?
Introduction
From apples to wheat, potatoes to cherries, Washington grows more than 300 kinds of crops! In this inquiry, students explore the land, water, and people that make farming possible in our state. They’ll discover which crops grow in different parts of Washington and why, learn about how food gets from farms to stores, and hear stories from the people who grow it. Students also think about how weather, soil, and water help (or challenge) farmers. This inquiry helps students connect what they eat to where it’s grown, and builds appreciation for the workers, tools, and natural resources that support agriculture in our state.
